CLINT EASTWOOD brings to the screen his new and fourth directorial feature in the span of two years, GRAN TORINO. The movie tells the story of a Korean War veteran, Walt Kowalski (EASTWOOD). After recently losing his wife Walt’s children begin pressuring him to move from his Detroit neighbourhood, into a senior citizens’ home.
Walt refuses to leave his home he has lived in for decades, despite his dislike to the changing demographics in the neighbourhood. The film intensifies when Walt’s prejudices are brought to the forefront when Thao (BEE VANG), the teenage son of the Hmong family next door, tries to steal his mint condition 1972 Grand Torino car. A reluctant friendship between Walt and Thao begins as they both explore the new world that can open up, when individuals let down their guard, even for just a moment.
GRAN TORINO is an inspiring story which highlights the unlikely bonds that people form to navigate through the subtle complexities of every day life. A blockbuster smash-hit at the box-office, GRAN TORINO garnered a huge $16.1m locally, and $147.1m worldwide and is the must-have DVD or blu-ray for your collection this June.
